Masataka Taketsuru owes a great deal to apples. The story goes that, back in the early days of Nikka, apple-related products such as apple juice, apple jelly, apple sauce, and apple Wine help sustained the business while waiting for the first Whiskies to mature.

So, to pay tribute to this remarkable piece of Whisky history, and to the apple of Masataka's eye, Scottish wife Jessie Roberts "Rita" Cowanthe and their 100th anniversary, two apple brandy barrel-finished Whiskies were released.

This expression is aged in various casks including new American Oak and Sherry casks, before getting the apple Brandy cask finishing, giving it the sweetness from the apples that highlights the pear and gentle peaty notes.
