Official tasting notes
Fresh melon, orange fondant and allspice.
Ed's review
Colour: Natural colour, bright gold. Coats the glass with thick oily legs.
Nose: Buttery pastries. Baked fruit tarts served with vanilla cream. Rum and vanilla fudge. Oak and a little wood spice.
Palate: Medium mouthfeel. Baked apple flan with rich buttery shortcrust pastry, dusted with cinnamon. Stewed pears and old oak. Alcohol is well integrated adding body and a touch of welcome warmth.
Finish: Medium finish. Mellow orchard fruits fade into the Autumnal spice of nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves against oak.
Overall: An elegant and sophisticated Glenrothes in a classic ex-bourbon style - a great cask pick.
About this Lady of The Glen whisky
Glenrothes make a bright and fruity distillate. This particular Glenrothes single malt has been fully matured in a hogshead. Patient maturation by Lady Of The Glen has allowed rich oak character of spice and sweetness to influence the spirit for a final balance of floral notes, juicy fruit and oak.
Age is just a number when it comes to whisky, but one can’t ignore the majesty of this old Speysider. Matured all its life in an active single hogshead, the robust nature of this spirit has allowed it to stand up to the unusually strong oak and spice notes offered from the cask.
